Using soft systems methodology as a precursor for an emergency department simulation model

چکیده
With patient flow simulation models it is not only important to identify visible resources obvious for inclusion in the model, but before this, it is important to fully understand and structure the problem situation, grounding it in the reality of working lives and organizational structure, strategies and professional cultures. In this project we have used soft systems methodology (SSM) at the emergency department (ED) at Akershus University Hospital. The purpose of the study is to identify and structure the problems in the ED for their own sake, and to identify factors that should, and should not be included when building the simulation model. Problem areas which should be considered when building the simulation model are physical infrastructure, staffing, communication between staff, physical working conditions, patient waiting times and bed logistics. This article shows that SSM is a successful precursor for building patient flow simulation models. OR Insight (2011) 24, 168–189. doi:10.1057/ori.2011.8; published online 15 June 2011

Background: Simulation is an appropriate technique for analyzing and evaluating the dynamic behavior of complex systems. The present study aimed to develop an integrated model using a simulation approach based on designing experiments to analyze performance of the admission queue system of patients, who referred to the emergency department of the Modarres hospital. Methods: In this descriptive...
متن کاملSystematic Structuring of the Business Domain of Local Mobile Apps Stores Using Soft Systems Methodology (SSM)
Due to the global competitive environment in the mobile app market, traditional problem-solving methods in examining the problem of accepting stores offering these digital products have ignored the important role of human factors and therefore this weakness necessitates research on relevant policies by governing bodies from another perspective based on a soft systems thinking approach. This pro...
متن کاملSoft Systems Methodology for Implementing Clinical Practice Guidelines in A General Hospital: A study protocol
Background: It is notoriously challenging to implement evidence-based care and to update and improve health care policy. Adhering to evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) serves as the driving force behind making decisions based on the best evidence and making efforts for improving the quality of patient care and outcomes. Despite requiring Iranian hospitals to implement CPGs in Ja...
متن کاملAn Intelligent Algorithm for Optimization of Resource Allocation Problem by Considering Human Error in an Emergency Department
Human error is a significant and ever-growing problem in the healthcare sector. In this study, resource allocation problem is considered along with human errors to optimize utilization of resources in an emergency department. The algorithm is composed of simulation, artificial neural network (ANN), design of experiment (DOE) and fuzzy data envelopment analysis (FDEA). It is a multi-response opt...
متن کاملA Soft Switched DC-DC Boost Converter for Use in Grid Connected Inverters
This paper presents a soft-switching DC-DC boost converter, which can be utilized in renewable energy systems such as photovoltaic array, and wind turbine connections to infinite bus of a big power network, using grid connected inverters. In the proposed topology for the DC-DC boost converter, the main and the auxiliary power switches are turned on and turned off with zero voltage switching (ZV...
